Search for spirituality and peace...

Spirituality is not a religion. It is a path for us to generate happiness, understanding, and love, so we can live deeply each moment of our life. - Thich Nhat Hanh

I am Some One, seeker of knowledge, spirituality, and meaning in my life.  The Golden Dragonfly Society exists only in my mind and in the mind of a few others with a passion similar to mine. The purpose of the society is to encourage the search for spirituality and understanding.  Maybe you would like to join us in your own search.  This society has no membership rolls, no dues, no meetings. We only ask that those who claim membership in the society be tolerant of the beliefs and faiths of others.  Each of us must conduct our own search and arrive at our own beliefs.  The dragonfly was chosen as the symbol for our society because it can be seen as a metaphor for transformation and the search for the meaning of life.  This metaphor occurred to me as I watched the dragonflies flitting about one summer day at the pond in my garden.  Shortly thereafter I elaborated on this metaphor in the poem seen on this page.  There is a legend associated with the name Golden Dragonfly Society, which you can find here.

My own search has led me to consider Creation, God, Nature, Humanity, Love, Conflict, and the person that I want to be. I have studied the teachings of Buddha, Jesus, and Tao among others.  I have learned to examine the teachings of others with an open mind but also to compare these teachings to my own experience to help judge their validity.  I have the expectation that each of us will come to his/her own conclusions regarding all these subjects and that the conclusions of others can be just as valid as my own.

If you want to make progress on your spiritual search you will need to create your own personal scriptures.  It is not enough to read or hear what others have written or think.  You must come to your own conclusions by putting your thoughts on paper.  When you come to some conclusion about what you believe, write an essay or a poem and put it in your Book of Living.  Include quotes from your readings if you wish.  This Book of Living will be your own personal scriptures so make of it what you wish.  The links on this page give you an idea of what I came up with.

Some One has collected his poems, meditations, notes and essays in a newly released book, The Golden Dragonfly Society, now available on Amazon, here.

       Why the Dragonfly?

As a nymph the dragonfly does not impress.
But his transformation to flight is the best.
Agility and lightness on his wings
Foretells the happiness and joy he brings.
Flitting from side to side and up and down
He's searching for something all around.
With eyes that provide unlimited vision
He serves as a symbol for self revision.
Shifting perspectives, we see different things
Like changing reflections from his flapping wings.
So he is a symbol for life's transformation
And all that comes from self realization.
Who would have guessed that the dragonfly's flight
Would mirror our search for the meaning of life!
