HAIKU

The English version of the Japanese haiku form is a three lined poem that typically has 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second and 5 syllables in the last line. Most of the haiku poems that follow were written by Some One to describe his philosophy of life, but there are a few at the end that were written about a trip to Yosemite.

My God and Nature,
Through spirituality,
Will nurture my soul.

Greet each day with love,
Bringing joy to those you meet.
Soon you'll live in peace.

Like the only road
To and from a happy place,
Love's a two way street.

Frustration is not
The path to a happy life.
Patience is the way

Sometimes from nowhere
A perfect surprise appears
Serendipity!

Stronger than nature
Is earth’s most powerful force.
Imagination!

Without honesty,
Caught in his own web of lies
Would the spider be.

For someone in need,
Just a moment of kindness
Can last the whole day.

When machine parts rub,
More tolerance is needed
So it is in life.

Don't talk. Don't think.
Experience the silence
To discover Tao.

Be in the moment.
Now see the interbeing.
Live with mindfulness.

Compare what you're taught
To your own experience
To be truly wise.

If you know too much,
Then you will learn little more.
Have an open mind!

Sway not in the wind.
Mind engaged but not troubled.
Equanimity

Calm and assertive,
Not shrill and  angry is the
Leader of the pack.

Confidence works best
When it is laced with a dose
Of humility.

Divergence leads to
Many considerations
Focus gets it done.

An obsession like
A paucity of balance
Leads to many falls.

Triumph over fear!
Be brave in speech and action.
You will be set free.

Without resources
You cannot be resourceful.
Better be prepared!

When in a conflict:
Know when and how to use force.
Always prefer peace.

Learn defensive skills.
Avoid bad times and bad places.
If forced, act boldly!

One's own cup of tea
Does not remain hot forever.
Opportunity!

Perfection pursued
Results in trouble a lot
So perfect it's not.

Perfection resides
Only with quantum physics
From the mind of God.

When you’re suffering
Chop wood and carry water
And your mood will lift!

Thich Nhat Hanh taught us
There is no way to happiness
Happiness is the way!

Why be in a rush?
I will get to it later.

 YOSEMITE HAIKU

Flowing water falls
O'er towering granite walls,
Mist envelops all

In silence walk to
Giant old sequoia grove,
A live cathedral

Walk on forest paths
Granite boulders everywhere
Yo Yosemite!

El Capitan cracks
Tossing deadly boulders down
Pray for one we lost.

Hike to Vernal falls
Clinging to a craggy wall
Reached the top elated

Many hikes up hill
Came back down without a spill,
Legs much depleted.
